About
Sigung/Grandmaster Peter Wong 師公黃碧海 is widely recognized as 師太公 (Sitaigung/Great-grandmaster) Wong Ha’s top disciple.
Wong started learning Choy Lee Fut under Wong Ha in 1968, shortly after immigrating to Canada from Hong Kong. He officially began leading Wong Ha’s class in 1971 at the Hon Hsing Athletic Club, where he has been teaching for more than 50 years.
Sigung Wong was the first kung fu instructor in Vancouver to teach full contact fighting and the first instructor to incorporate high jumps into their lion dancing. His school was the first branch to represent Wong Ha at local tournaments beginning in 1972, winning numerous awards with multiple students under his tutelage.
Over his 50 years of teaching, Sifu Peter Wong has taught thousands of students, many of whom have gone on to become martial arts champions and instructors – his disciple, Sifu Michael Tan, is currently the head instructor of the Chau Luen Athletic Club. As of today, Tan has 4 disciples of his own and oversees a large number of students, training them in Choy Lee Fut kung fu, lion dance, and dragon dance. All of this, including the continual passing down of knowledge of traditional Chinese art and culture, is owed to his years of training under Wong.
Sigung Peter Wong currently holds the titles of:
Chairman of the World Organization of Wushu & Kung Fu Masters
Co-chairman of the Confederation of Canadian Wushu Organization
9th Degree, Confederation of Canadian Wushu Organization
Honorary president of the Hong Kong Hung Hsing Choy Lee Fut Federation
